Most of the time the user will see three sections, customising game type, the timer and speech mode.
I simplified the settings page itself down to a simple series of segmented controls. Most of the time it shows number of balls left but will also act as a countdown when the calling timer is enabled. The icon is dynamically generated, though, so it can double up as a numerical status as well. The bottom-right button represents the application settings. I love these toolbar buttons by the way: they have transparent inscriptions and inverted button states. It feels like a transient display that can be quickly toggled on or off by tapping the bottom-left button. Thanks to live blur backdrops, activating the grid view to review called balls no longer feels like initiating a separate state. The latter two of these are presented as light modal panels, so users never lose context of the current game. The canister, the overview grid and the settings toggles. The application now has just three screens. The new appearance also drastically simplifies the mental model of the app. I experimented with accelerometer-controlled movement but it was too distracting to keep. Balls fall freely into a full-width canister. I use a physics engine (Box2D implementation, as UIKit Dynamics does not support circular bodies) as a substitute for the visual realism. I have kept a level of realism to the bingo balls, although still drastically simplified over their previous designs. However, it’s finally done.īingo Machine 3 finally escapes the world of fake gloss and textured linen with a design that centres on black and white colours without feeling sterile. There was also some holdups with getting assets together. I ended up dropping the Watch app again though. Naturally, Apple released WatchKit in November so I messed about with that, putting off the finishing touches to Bingo Machine again. I settled around September, but again delayed shipping as I prioritised some client projects and getting a Writing Aid widget out the door. Crucially, Apple introduced live blurring for third party apps in iOS 8 … which then meant I could rework the design of Bingo Machine some more. At this point, I decided I might as well skip iOS 7 entirely and wait for iOS 8. I also had other stuff to do, other stuff got in the way. I hated the new look I had designed, I wasn’t sure what I liked in the new world of flat design, so it took time for me to be happy with something. I began work on this version of the app in June 2013, after WWDC.
The bingo cards to play at home can be printed for free from the Bingo.Today, I am really proud to announce the new Bingo Machine for iOS 7. Every new game the shape changes, you can either start the game with this shape or select a new one.
The app has several shapes to choose that you can complete. In the 75 balls bingo variant there is only one prize, the winner is the first who completes the shape currently in play in the bingo card. In the 90 balls bingo variant, the first one that completes a line is awarded with the line prize, and the first one that completes the whole bingo card is awarded with the bingo prize. The app can be used to play 90 balls bingo, the bingo variant that is played in Spain, and to play 75 balls bingo, the american bingo variant. If it is desired, you can silence the app so that the same person who is in charge of calling the balls is the one who announces the numbers. Each time you tap the button, the app calls the next ball.
Manual mode: The calling of the balls is made by tapping a button. The app allows to configure the speed with which the balls are called. Automatic mode: The app begins to call the bingo balls until paused or until there are no more balls left. The game can be paused and restarted as needed, for example, to check if the line or bingo is correct, to check all the numbers already called, etc. When a bingo game starts, the app begins to call the bingo balls. The "Bingo at Home" app is a bingo caller to play bingo at home, among family or friends.
Available for mobile, tablet and Android TV.
